How to Break in Boots
New cowboy boots are an exciting addition to your wardrobe, but they often need some breaking in. It’s a bit of an art. There may be some degree of trial and error as you find out what method works for you and your new boots.
Most cowboy boots are made of cow leather. But even exotic materials can be stretched and broken in.
- Wear them around the house. Before wearing them out, first wear them around your home. This way your feet will get used to them.
- Wear thick socks. It’s best to wear thick, moisture-wicking socks. They will cushion your feet and reduce friction that might cause blisters.
- Gradual wear. Ease into it. Gradually increase how long you wear the boots.
- Use a boot stretcher. Just put it into your boot and turn the handle to stretch it out a bit. Boot stretchers can be left inside your boots all day.
- Pay attention to hot spots. As you break in your boots, watch for any “hot spots” or areas that consistently rub against your skin. These areas might require additional attention or padding.
