Jack’s Western Wear opened back in 1976 with only $7500 of inventory ~ primarily 35 pairs of Texas boots.
Founder Larry Allred has now turned Jack’s Western Wear into a destination store in the state of Alabama.
Jack’s Western Wear was recently voted the “Best Place to Buy Boots,” the “Best Western Wear” and the “Best Place to Buy Men’s Clothing” in the Cullman Times’ reader poll ~ several years running for boots and western wear.
After graduating from The University of Alabama in 1969, Mr. Allred returned to his family’s business ~ Jack’s Truck Stop. He wanted to expand the business into something beyond selling diesel and food. He took out a loan and built a 1000 sq. ft store on the north side of the truck stop restaurant. The Allred family sold the fuel operations of the truck stop in 1985, but Mr. Allred continued to operate both the restaurant and the western wear store.
The restaurant was sold in 1996, and Mr. Allred was able to concentrate more on the western wear business. The store first expanded to 3000 square feet in 1987 and then to 7500 square feet in 1996.
In 2013, Jack’s Western Wear moved to its present location ~ 114 Schwaiger Road ~ now 25,000 square feet. This includes a “bargain boot porch” and an “Ariat Annex.”
The interstate exit that our current store faces was built on Mr. Allred’s great grandfather’s farm, and our store is on the spot where his house once stood.
Our business has always been a family business. Mr. Allred’s oldest daughter, Sara, has helped run the business since 2007. His youngest daughter, Kristin, has recently returned to the run the marketing and e-commerce side after retiring from a 20-year career as a TV meteorologist .
Many of our customers and employees have a long connection with Jack’s Western Wear, and we will continue to stay true to our roots. Thank you for shopping at Jack’s!
